Welcome to our latest newsletter which includes a wrap up of end of season Senior awards. Congratulations to all those who received recognition and to all those people who help to make these performances possible – coaches, parents, teammates and supporters in general. It was great to see so many people attending this year and sharing stories from another great summer of cricket. There was a special presentation to Dave Paterson to mark 25 years as an umpire, an outstanding achievement. We are fortunate in Marlborough to have the support of Dave and all of those who give up their time to umpire our games.

The following day the season concluded with our Women’s Cricket day and you can read Beth Barnes’ great article on the social competition and the festival day.  Also in this newsletter is a look back on the Marlborough Senior Rep season and a further look at our strategic plan, this time focusing on one of our values.

We have our AGM coming up on Wednesday 28 July, everyone is welcome. I hope you are all wintering well and enjoying winter sports. We have commenced our planning for the 2021-22 summer and the next newsletter will focus on some of those plans.

Best wishes
Ed Gilhooly
General Manager

From the Board

On behalf of the board, I hope your cricket season was both enjoyable and successful with plenty of runs, wickets and catches.

The Board has commenced planning for the season ahead in line with our strategic plan and looking at how we can continue to grow the game for all.

Some exciting things have already been confirmed for next season;

The Central Districts Cricket Association AGM will be held in Blenheim in November, the first time we have hosted it.

In January 2022 we will host the Over 50’s National Tournament which will bring a large number of players and supporters to the region .

To ensure you get your winter cricket fix, make sure you tune into the Black Caps two test matches against England before the World Test Championship Final against India. Although there might be some sleep deprivation, I can’t wait for the games.

Finally, thanks to everyone for your contribution to Cricket in Marlborough over the past season, it’s very much appreciated.

Cheers
Greg Stretch
Board Chair

Women’s Social Cricket

We had a great season of women’s social cricket with both the Wednesday night tournament and the festival day. We want to say a big thank you to Churchill Private Hospital Trust for their sponsorship of these events, we couldn’t do it without them.
If you’d like to read more about it, specifically the team of new mums who joined us on Wednesday nights, click here.

Senior Rep Season in Review

The Marlborough Senior Rep team is coached by Jarrod Englefield supported by assistant coaches Greg Logan and Colin Wood and Manager Greg Stretch. Matthew Stretch captains the side supported by vice-captain Nick Weaver. A squad of around 18 players commit to pre-season and in-season practice sessions leading to the Central Districts 50 over Chapple Cup tournament held in November and the NZC Zone 3 Hawke Cup competition from December through to February. The Hawke Cup is the premier trophy for District Cricket. Last season the team narrowly missed out on gaining a Hawke Cup challenge when they lost their final game to Nelson by one wicket in a tense finish. The season ended on a high in March when the team gained revenge with a fine win in Nelson to regain the Newman Shield. Player highlights included Akhil Pant’s first century for Marlborough and two 5 wicket bags for Will Smith, one of the new players to our region. Plans are in place for the 2021-22 season with the same management team confirmed to continue in their roles.
