Our Ultraquip Hire Senior Rep Men begin their Hawke Cup campaign this weekend against Buller at Horton Park. Player coach Andrew McCaa will be hoping for a winning start on the newly re-laid Horton Park no1 ground with play starting each day at 10.30am. Buller have been tough opponents for several year’s now so get down to Horton Park this weekend to watch some good cricket action.
Country came out on top as the SBS Bank Senior grade competition moved to red ball declaration style cricket on Saturday. Matthew Stretch (36) and Corey Bovey (38no) were the main contributors for Country as they chased down Town’s total of 135 for the loss of 6 wickets to earn 15 points for the win. Andrew McCaa (55) top scored in the Town innings while Matthew Stretch (2-15), Luke Pannell (2-17) and Sam Boyce (2-15) were the main wicket takers for Country.
In 2nd grade games Gunn Baath took 4-23, Yadwinder Hundal 3-43 and Jassi Brar an unbeaten 38 in Valley Blue’s win over Celtic for whom Tom Sloan and Caleb Young both made 34. Tom Marshall took 5-34 as Renwick were the other winners by 3 wickets over Valley Yellow despite 4-28 from Greg Stretch.
In 3rd grade there were wins for Wairau and Wairau Valley with top performances including; Peter Trevathan (57), Kobi Kennedy (56), Billy Hurren (69no & 4-51), Fionn Heagney (72no & 3-9), Dom Alexander (38), Kyle Buckley (75), Jesse Crawford (3-17), and George Frampton (3-9).
Top performers in the latest round of WK 4th grade games included; Max Campbell (30), Reon Holdaway (31 & 3-11), Dylan Wells (51), Max Templeman (2-14), Milana Gurovich (25), Ollie Gaudin (66 & 3-8), Corban McLennan (38 & 3-7), Isabelle Brown (3-14), Joseph Gilhooly (45 & 2-9), William Dunne (2-11), and Jock Murphy (30).
In WK 5th grade games there were fine performances from Archer May (29), Keegan Smith (2-13), Ollie Gaudin (3-4), Fred Maher (16no), Zavier Hughes (2-8), and Evi Englefield (21).
The Marlborough Year 11/12 side lost to Nelson by 8 wickets in their nearest neighbour CD tnmt game on Sunday. Luke Holdaway top scored with 28 in a disappointing total of 93 batting first which proved no problem for the Nelson top order despite 2 early wickets to Holdaway who finished with 2-11 from 4 overs. The team now focuses on the upcoming CD tnmt in Napier from 10-12 December.
Meanwhile our Year 7/8 Primary Schools Girls Gold team got some valuable game time taking on Canterbury Country in Cheviot in two T20 games. Beau Clouston batted well to top score in both games with 23no and 15 while Evi Englefield had the fine figures of 2-15 in game 2. The team continues to prepare for their CD tournament in Masterton from 13-15 January.
