Our PaknSave Senior Rep Women faced strong opposition at the Central Districts T20 weekend in Whanganui with most sides featuring CD Hinds squad members. Although a win proved elusive over the 5 games several players stood up and will have benefited from the experience. Pania Dallarosa (23, 20 & 14no) and Carly Englefield (28, 22 & 20) contributed well with the bat while Stella Cornelius returned the best bowling figures of 3-31 in the loss to Taranaki. The team have continued to show improvement under the coaching of Jarrod Englefield this season and exciting times ahead for the female game in Marlborough.
Renwick and Wairau Valley Yellow have confirmed their places in the SBS Bank 2nd grade 40 over final with a round to spare following comfortable victories last Saturday. Mike Anstis took 6-18 for Renwick in their demolition of Wairau with no batter reaching double figures. Daniel Karena was unbeaten on 29 as Renwick chased down the 42 run target in less than 5 overs. Valley Yellow had to work a little harder scrapping their way to 129 all out thanks to lower order contributions from Sukh Aulakh (24), Paddy Crannitch (18) and Danny Knox (18) before James Bell took 6-34 to ensure a 51 run win despite 41 from Yadi Hundal.
Wairau Valley will face Wairau in the 3rd Grade final following final round wins for both teams. Valley enjoyed an early finish after bowling Renwick out for 48 – Kyle Buckley 3-11, Flynn Preece 3-7 – George Frampton then striking an unbeaten 28 in the 9 wicket win. John Diamanti top scored with 29 in Celtic’s 127 with Harry McKendry taking 5-20. Fionn Heagney led the Wairau charge to victory with 94 from only 64 balls. Both 2nd and 3rd grade finals take place at Horton Park on Saturday 15th March.
The Willows Cricket club were winners of this years Kindred Cup held last weekend at Horton Park and the Black Cottage cricket ground and expertly managed by the United Country & Vineyard Cricket team.
There were more top performances on Saturday morning in WK 4th grade games including; Julian Englefield (29 & 5-21), Christain Morton (2-21), Joseph Gilhooly (50), Jacob Hefford (4-14), Jadyn Buckley (3-9), Flynn Preece (3-15), Mason Birtles (33), Freddie Heagney (33), Cora Wilson (2-26), Ollie Gaudin (56), Finnbar Duncan (3-21), Max Campbell (38), Jacob Tavave (38) & Harry Johnson (2-17).
The final round of 4th grade games are this Saturday at Oliver Park from 8.45am and we wrap up the WK Junior season with our annual awards evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Horton Park on Tuesday 11th March. All are welcome as we celebrate another great season of Junior Cricket!
