The Ultraquip Marlborough Men’s side are in action this Sunday at Horton Park as they take on Nelson in a Newman Shield Challenge match. The team is coached this year by James Bell with Kirk Nicholas taking on the manager role and a new captain with Joel Lavender taking the reins. The 50 over a side game starts at 11am on the Horton no1 ground.
In round 3 action of the Tasman Premier League Falcons fell to an agonising 1 wicket loss to defending champions ACOB in Nelson. Matthew Stretch (35) and James Bell (28) helped Falcons reach 130 all out which seemed a winning score as Sam Boyce (3-21) and Andrew McCaa (3-30) reduced ACOB to 87 for 9 before an unbeaten 48 from Liam Baird turned the game around. Dolphins meanwhile fell to their 3rd successive defeat by 82 runs to WTTU. Jaden Adams picked up 3 wickets but the Dolphins batting failed to fire once again to be dismissed for 82.
In SBS Bank 2nd grade games Valley Blue beat Valley Yellow by 3 wickets with Vineeth Babu, Sukesh PM and Shanku Kumar each picking up 3 wickets, while Danny Knox took 4-27 for Yellow. Renwick were the other winners by 64 runs over Wairau thanks to 53 from Mark Zillwood before Dane Winstanley (5-23) and Kobi Kennedy (4-25) combined with the ball, only Fionn Heagney (34) offering any resistance for Wairau.
In 1st round of 3rd grade games Wairau Valley chased down 157 for a narrow 2 wicket win over Wairau. Eddie Russell top scored with 35 for Wairau with Jacob Hefford (2-17) and Joseph Gilhooly (2-23) bowling well for Valley. In reply George Frampton made 43 and Joe Gilhooly 44 while Harry McKendry picked up 3 for 30 for Wairau.
Club cricket takes a break for the Marlborough Anniversary weekend, while Junior grades start the following week.
