The Marlborough Senior Rep team fell to a narrow 2 wicket loss to Nelson in Sunday’s exciting Newman Shield clash played at Horton Park. The Marlborough innings of 180 all out was held together by an outstanding unbeaten 99 from Matthew Stretch. Tom Sutherland supported with 21 and there were crucial partnerships down the order to get to a competitive target. Nelson fell to 114 for 7 in reply before a vital 8th wicket partnership of 64 runs proved the difference, former Marlborough player Sean Neal making 41. Nick Weaver led the Marlborough attack taking 4-33 from his 10 overs.

Unfortunately WK 5th grade games fell victim to Friday’s wet weather with the boys and girls competitions now starting this Friday. In SBS Bank Senior Grade defending champions Wairau has lost their first 3 games following a 7 wicket loss to Renwick last weekend. This leaves Valley, Celtic and Renwick joint top of the table on 10 pts.
