Marlborough Cricket Association (MCA) today announces that General Manager Ed Gilhooly will step down from his role after nearly two decades of service. Ed first signalled his intention to transition out of the role some time ago, and following a recent family bereavement, Ed has chosen to bring his finish date forward to allow him to spend extended time in the UK.
During his tenure, Ed has overseen a range of operational, governance, and participation-focused improvements. Notable achievements include:
- helping significantly strengthen the financial position of the Association from a challenging starting point
- supporting the expansion of playing numbers across several formats—including the recent growth of the women’s and girls’ game
- building strong working relationships with Central Districts and New Zealand Cricket
- Managing MCA’s transition from a management committee structure to a modern governance board in 2018, including implementation of the new constitution.
Operationally, Ed has been responsible for coordinating and hosting a number of significant tournaments and events. These include the Under-19 series between New Zealand and Pakistan in 2010, South Island Primary Schools tournaments in both 2015 and 2025, and multiple veterans’ tournaments, including an international fixture between New Zealand and Australia.
Chair of Marlborough Cricket, Jonathan Davis, acknowledged Ed’s long service, saying: “Ed has made a significant contribution to Marlborough Cricket over many years. His steady leadership has taken the organisation through several important developments, and we appreciate the time and effort he has dedicated to the role.”
Reflecting on his time with the Association, Ed said: “It has been a privilege to work with Marlborough Cricket over the past 18 years. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to achieve together, and I’m grateful for the support of the many people I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside”.
MCA wishes Ed every success in his future endeavours.
