WK Junior 4th grade returned last Saturday with games moved to artificial turf to beat the wet weather and some outstanding performances including: Lachie Cooney (44), Thomas Andrews (30), Oscar Duncan (29), Max Campbell (43), Vespa Duncan (2-16), Filippa Palm (24), Ned Bell (4-6), Dylan Wells (34), Tamati de Wildt (34), Reon Holdaway (50), Jayden Buckley (2-15), Julian Englefield (30), Fionn Heagney (50), Billy Hurren (61 & 3-19), Eddie Russell (59). Unfortunately all Friday evening cricket, including WK 5th grade, was washed out this week. This weekend sees the resumption of Harcourts Kiwi Cricket at Lansdowne Park. Wairau will take on Celtic in this Friday’s SBS Bank Senior grade T20 final following wins for both sides last Wednesday and the cancellation of final round games on Friday. Celtic picked up a crucial nine run win over Valley thanks to 32 from Luke Holdaway and tight bowling from Greg Knowles (4-22). Matthew Stretch made 53 for Valley while Greg Stretch took 3-12. Rikki Bovey top scored with 37 in Renwicks’s total of 125 (Griffin Carter 3-25) with Andrew McCaa (30no) guiding Wairau to a 3 wicket win. Also on Friday evening the 3rd grade T20 final will be played between Wairau and Wairau Valley with both games starting at 5.15pm at Horton Park.

In the 2nd grade T20 competition Thursday’s final will be between UCVC and Celtic Green following final round games last Thursday. Celtic Green were on the receiving end of a batting blitz as Renwick piled up 194, Piers Landon-Lane top scoring with 51. Fred Sululoto then took 3-16 to bowl Celtic out for 126. UCVC confirmed their final place with a 13 run over Valley. Paul Hickman (65) and Bryn Cotching (45no) were the main contributors to UCVCs 188 total before Baldev Gill with 77 from 41 balls and Eddie Swan (34) gave Valley a chance, Lee Williams taking 2-13. The Section B Final will be between Wairau Warriors and Renwick Veterans also on Thursday evening at Horton Park.

In Saturday’s SBS Bank Senior grade 40 over comp there were wins for Renwick over Falcons and for Wairau over Valley. Nick Weaver top scored with 33 in Wairau’s 168 total, Jethro Moran taking 3-26. In reply Greg Stretch made 31 but Valley had no answer to the Wairau bowling attack led by Baxter Croad (3-5) and Griffin Carter (3-9), bowled out for 66. In Division 2 there was a century for Celtic’s Olie Kennedy and 65no to Fergus Dodson while Ted Small made 44 in Valley’s reply before the rain came. Hayden McWilliam made 74 for Wairau, Dane Winstanley (35no) and Michael Canning (32) batting well in Renwick’s reply before rain forced the abandonment.
