In the latest round of SBS Bank Senior grade competition it was Country who came away with a 5 wicket win. Sam Boyce and Piers Landon-Lane each took 3 wickets to restrict Town to 171 batting first, Tarin Mason top scoring with 54. Boyce then made 37 to provide useful support to top scorer Benji Nation who remained unbeaten on 60. The competition continues this Saturday with a further round of 50 over cricket.
In Friday evening T20 Senior grade games Wairau confirmed its final spot with a 4 wicket win over Renwick. Griffin Carter’s unbeaten 25 helped Wairau chase down 148 despite 3-29 from Cody Golding who also top scored with 28 in Renwick’s innings, Zariab Karkaria taking 2-15. Celtic will be their opponents in the 7th Feb final and they enjoyed a narrow 4 run win over Wairau Valley. Sam Boyce was unbeaten on 53 but unable to quite get Valley over the line, Hunter Ruffell bowling a tight final over which went for only 3 runs when 7 were required.
In the 2nd grade 40 over competition Wairau defaulted their game to Valley Blue while Renwick were 4 wicket winners over Valley Yellow. Carley Englefield top scored with 26 in Valley’s disappointing total of 76 (Tom Marshall 3-23, Keiran Gaudin (3-19). Greg Winstanley top scored with 23 as Renwick chased the total down in the 23rd over for an early finish.

Billy Hurren hit a century from 58 balls as 3rd grade resumed with a double round of T20 games on Saturday. Other strong performers included Theodore McFadden (3-23), Nathan Glue (54), Ryan Clark (3-7), John Diamanti (3-15), Harry Nailer (3-28), Jason Baker (42), Tyler O’Donnell (2-9), Kyle Buckley (3-6), Ollie Kennedy (40), Dom Alexander (46), John Clark (3-18) and Maui de Wildt (3-13).
