The MCA Ultraquip senior men’s team began their preparations for this summer’s Hawke Cup with a trip to Nelson to contest the Gary MacDonald Cup over last weekend. The Marlborough batting failed to fire in an outright defeat by 9 wickets although there were useful doubles from Andrew McCaa (38 & 56) and from young Luke Holdaway (33 & 23, both unbeaten) while Jaden Adams took 4-55. Next outing for the Men’s side is this weekend in Westport for the Stretch / Scanlon trophy prior to the opening Hawke Cup round against Buller at Horton Park on 30th November.
In SBS Bank 2nd grade games Renwick beat Celtic by 7 wickets thanks to an unbeaten 51 from Mark Zillwood. Wairau were comfortable winners over Wairau Valley Blue led by 73 from josh Alexander. Other notable performances in this grade included Liam Young (41), Dane Winstanley (3-16), Jassi Brar (3-56), Harpreet Singh (38), and Aidan Lavendar (5-21).
In 3rd grade Joe O’Regan (35no) and Kyle Heagney (29no) helped Wairau to an exciting one wicket win over Valley. Other notable performances included Finn Maskill (4-34), Kyle Buckley (4-38), and Fionn Heagney (3-6). Special mention also for George Frampton of Wairau Valley who had the outstanding figures of 5-11 including a hat-trick in the previous round of games.
Top performers in the first weekend of WK 4th grade included Max Nailer (47), Julian Englefield (35), Jock Murphy (32 & 3-25), Freddie Heagney (37 & 3-9), Josh Gleeson (35), Beau Clouston (2-33), Mason Birtles (3-17), Corban McLennan (3-7), Finnbar Duncan (3-15), and Oscar Duncan (3-7). In WK 5th Grade George Laugesen (24 & 3-9), Louie Gaudin (4-13), & Archer May (26).
This Monday sees the start of a series of T20 games for our Primary Schools Development players with games taking place at Renwick Sports Centre. The development players have been split into 4 teams to play over the next 3 Mondays. Games start at 4.45pm.
