The Marlborough Men’s and Women’s Rep teams complete their seasons this Sunday with games against Nelson. The PaknSave Women’s team travel to play at Saxton Oval for the newly created Hiwa-i-te-rangi Trophy hoping to avenge their narrow defeat from the game played in Blenheim in November. Meanwhile the Men’s team host Nelson at Horton Park hoping to end the season on a high by regaining the Newman Shield. Play starts at 11am on the main ground.

In the latest round of SBS Bank 2nd grade 40 over games there were wins for Celtic Green, Wairau Valley and Wairau. Marlborough rep opening bowler Jaden Adams took 6-21 as Celtic Green bowled Kaikoura out for 48 in a convincing 8 wicket win. Marlborough rep captain Matthew Stretch hit 67, Jamie McVittie 61 and Rikki Bovey 58 while Jethro Moran took 5-38 as Wairau Valley defeated Renwick by 136 runs, Kirk Nicholas the only resistance with 32. Sam Young top scored with 30 as Wairau beat Celtic Gold despite 4-10 from Fergus Dodson. Luke Petrie with 3-16 was the pick of the Wairau bowlers. The final round of games this Saturday will confirm the make up of the semi-finals scheduled for Saturday 11th March.

Renwick Rugby club claimed the 2nd grade T20 div2 crown last week, Sam Kenny smashing 57 from 27 balls to take them through to 172 batting first. Hugh Marfell took 3-24 including a hat-trick for Wairau Awatere who fell well short in reply, all out for 84 with 2 wickets apiece for Caylem Cooke, Jayden Holdaway, Sam Kenny and Daniel Jones.

In 3rd grade games Renwick beat Wairau by 3 wickets in a low scoring encounter. Ollie Eyles top scored with 42 in Wairau’s 83 all out (Alex Neal 3-16, Nathan Brooke-Taylor 3-13). In reply  Michael Canning was unbeaten on 35 to guide Renwick home despite Nikko Russell taking 3-26.

Stand out performances in the latest round of WK junior 4th grade games last Saturday included; Thomas Heagney (34), Fionn Heagney (55 & 2-7), Jaiden Hollis (20), George Wilson (3-7), Eddie Russell (2-11), and Tom Dunne (2-7).

Entries are open for the Churchill Private Hospital Women’s Social Cricket festival day on Sunday 12th March.
