Our PaknSave Marlborough Senior Women’s Rep side travelled to Nelson on Sunday for two T20 games as part of the Hiwa-i-te-rangi Trophy series. Marlborough gained an 8 wicket win in the first game after restricting Nelson to 91 (Stella Cornelius 3-24). Carley Englefield with 30no led the reply supported by an unbeaten 20 from Eden Pettigrew. Nelson gained their revenge in game two with a 25 run victory after posting 113 batting first (Kate Gaging 57). Cornelius was again the pick of the Marlborough bowlers with 2-12.
Town secured bragging rights in the SBS Senior Grade series with a tight 9 run win over Country defending a below par 144 thanks largely to 5-22 from Andrew McCaa. Sukh Aulakh 36 & Pier Landon-Lane 30 were the main scorers for Country. Earlier Sam Young top scored with 44 in Town’s innings while Eden Pettigrew took 4-49 and James Bell 3-10.
In the latest round of 2nd Grade 40 over competition games Renwick made short work of chasing Wairau’s 128 (Dane Winstanley 3-31) thanks to an unbeaten 84 from Keiran Gaudin, the total reached in just 13 overs for the loss of 1 wicket. Valley Yellow were equally convincing winners over stablemates Valley Blue by 9 wickets, Greg Stretch with a useful double of 31 and 2-13 while Chris Pile made an unbeaten 33.
In the 2nd grade T20 competition UCVC and Celtic Green confirmed their places in the 13th Feb Section A final with a round to spare. Renwick held on to win by 1 run over Valley Yellow, Alex Neal holding his nerve conceding only 7 from the final over to finish with 3-11 from 4 overs having earlier made a crucial unbeaten 13 at the end of Renwick’s innings (Haden Gaudin 23, Matthew Stretch 3-24). Sukh Aulakh (41) and Patrick Moran (34) were the main scorers for Valley.
Section B remains tight at the top with Wairau Warriors and Awatere increasing their chances with crucial wins. Top performers included Sam Westenra (71), Vince Redwood (31), Michael Gibb (2-11), Adam White (37), Joe Cooke (44), Jono Underwood (4-17), Derek Slooten (3-16), Josh Sim (52), Matt Clark (71no), Ben Hunter (3-5), Riki Baker (3-20), Carly Englefield (22), Wade Cornelius (2-6), Jamie Norton (26), Vicky Underwood (2-14).
In 3rd Grade T20 games Ollie Kennedy smashed 103 from 65 balls in Celtic’s win over Renwick. Other notable performances included Maui de Wildt (4-11), Connor Davies (3-13), Kurtis Pincott (4-16), Pania Dallarosa (24), and Philip Hurren (3-16).
In WK 4th grade games top performers included Josh Abrahams (42), Freddie Heagney (38), Harry Johnson (6-18), Corban McLennan (3-23), Mason Birtles (3-16), Edward Taylor (3-19), Max Campbell (36), Jacob Hefford (25 & 3-11), Lachlan Gibb (3-39), & Charlie Clarke (41).
