The 2024-25 Cricket season is already underway but there is still time to register for our Junior grades and programmes starting this week. Smash Play is for our youngest players with centres starting at Seddon Domain on Tuesday, at Renwick School on Wednesday and at Picton on Friday with each from 3.30pm to 4.15pm. Then next Monday the Horton Park centre starts with these sessions running from 5.30pm to 6.15pm. You can register for Smash Play on the Marlborough Cricket website or just come along to a session and give it a try.

Harcourts Kiwi Cricket is the next stage played with a soft ball at Lansdowne Park on Saturday mornings with separate boys and girls sections. Register via the “register now” link on our website home page. Or come along to an information evening this Thursday at Horton Park from 4pm to 5pm.

For WK 5th and 4th boys and girls hardball grades you register through one of our clubs via the “registration” tab on our website. These grades also start this weekend with players currently being organised into teams so get in touch with your club asap or you can email Liv@marlboroughcricket.co.nz for help or information on any of our junior cricket options.

The Marlborough Senior Rep teams were both in action last weekend playing their Nelson counterparts. The PaknSave Women’s side made a below par 75 all out at Horton Park with only Eden Pettigrew (28no) reaching double figures. The bowlers however stepped up to make Nelson work hard for the win for the loss of 6 wickets with Stella Cornelius taking 3-18. The match is the first in a series of 40 over and T20 games over the course of the season for the Hiwi-i-te-rangi trophy.

The Ultraquip Marlborough Men’s side restricted Nelson to 243 from their 50 overs at Saxton Oval, Zariab Karkaria the pick of the bowlers with 3-26 from 8 overs. In reply Andrew McCaa top scored with 40, while Jaden Adams was unbeaten on 33 as the team fell short on 163 all out with 8 overs unused. While the Newman Shield heads back over the hill the team returns to Nelson this weekend for a 2 day challenge match for the Gary MacDonald Trophy.

A new innovation this summer has seen the introduction of a series of Town v Country games at Senior grade club level. Players from Wairau and Celtic clubs can earn selection for the Town team while Renwick and Wairau Valley players combine for the Country side in a series of 50 over, English rules and T20 games. Both 2nd grade and 3rd grade Saturday 40 over competitions are also now underway.

A reminder for anyone wanting to play cricket this summer to register on the PlayHQ platform.
