Another summer of Cricket is underway but there is still time to register for our junior and adult grades. The Smash Play programme is for our youngest players with centres at Horton Park, Renwick, Seddon or Picton. Harcourts Kiwi Cricket is the next stage played with a soft ball at Lansdowne Park on Saturday mornings with separate boys and girls sections. Register for these programmes through the “register now” link on our website home page. For WK 5th and 4th boys and girls hardball grades you register through one of our clubs via the registration tab on our website.

All junior grades and programmes commence over the first weekend of November so get your registration in asap. Contact your club representative or development@marlboroughcricket.co.nz if you have any questions or have trouble registering.

Wairau Valley and Renwick were the winning teams In first round action of the SBS Bank Division 1 competition. Sukh Aulakh was the Valley match winner taking 5-11 as Wairau were bowled out for a paltry 53 and then smashing a quickfire 29 from 21 balls in an 8 wicket win over the defending champions.

Renwick were equally convincing winners bowling Celtic out for 109 despite 46 from Greg Knowles, Piers Landon-Lane taking 6-14. In reply Luke Frankland (42) and Corey Bovey (33) saw them to a 5 wicket win (Jaden Adams 3-20).

In Division2 games Wairau Valley were 2 wicket winners over Wairau thanks to a determined innings of 37 from opener Will Baker and 3 wickets for Finn Maskill. For Wairau Dylan Andrews top scored with 25 while Ollie Eyles picked up 3 wickets.

The other Div2 game featured an all Celtic clash with Gold coming out on top for a narrow 4 run win. Gagan Singh was the matchwinner with 35no and 2 wickets for 9 runs.

Entries are also open for the Churchill Private Hospital Women’s Social Cricket festival day on Sunday 12th November. This is a fun day open to anyone wanting to give cricket a try. Played with a softer ball there is no need for gloves and helmets and all equipment is provided. Get a team of 6 together or enter as an individual and we will find you a team to play for.
