Matthew Stretch reached a significant milestone playing his 100th game for Marlborough last weekend. Unfortunately the Marlborough Senior Rep Men’s team suffered a 1st innings loss to Nelson and will need to bounce back quickly as they travel to Westport this weekend to take on Buller in the 2nd round of Hawke Cup elimination games. Sam Boyce, Josh Poole and Luke Pannell each took 2 wickets as Nelson made 400 for 7 batting first. Corey Bovey top scored with 83 but Marlborough fell well short and forced to follow on reached 53 without loss before the draw was agreed.
Wairau were convincing winners of the SBS Bank 2nd Grade Div2 40 over competition final over Celtic thanks to a fine century from Max Rufell supported by 35no from Josh Harris and 3 wickets each to Niko Russell and Teagan Birkett. In the latest 2nd grade T20 games Ben Armstrong (53no), Harpreet Singh (33) and Vinny Babu (4-8) led Celtic Gold to a win over Renwick, Ed Gilhooly (3-13), Richard O’Shaughnessy (43no). Logan Robinson (4-10), Caleb Young (3-22) and Tom Sloan (50no from 21 balls) starred in Celtic Green’s demolition of Wairau Valley. In section B Anna Booker (40) and Carley Englefield (40no) ensured the Boundary Breakers made a competitive score which Wairau Awatere just made for the loss of 7 wickets thanks to 62no from Sam Westenra. Ed Miles (40), Aidan Lavendar (60no) and Ben Alexander (4-13) were the key figures in Wairau Warriors win over Renwick Veterans for whom Iain Tyler took 4-21.
In SBS Bank Senior grade T20 games Andrew McCaa (94no), Griffin Carter (4-20) and Baxter Croad (3-29) were main contributors in Wairau’s win over Valley, while Tom Sutherland (63no) steered Celtic to victory over Renwick for whom Corey Bovey made 52 and Piers Landon-Lane took 3-16.
Top performers in 2nd round of 3rd grade T20 included Dom Alexander (3-0), Max Ruffell (46no), Lachie Brick (2-5) and Connor Davies (2-11).
In the final pre-Xmas WK Junior 4th grade games last Saturday standout performances included: Harry McKendry (56no), Reon Holdaway (30), Mason Ball (3-23), Max Campbell (31), Lachie Cooney (55no), Hunter Wong (35no), Daniel Baker (25), Aiden Batty (2-11), Fionn Heagney (31), Tom Heagney (35no), Harry Nailer (2-21), Pippa Yuen (37 & 2-21), and Julian Englefield (30).
WK 5th Grade has one more round this Friday to make up for the 1st round washed out earlier this summer. The remaining junior grades take a break for the Xmas holiday period and we look forward to seeing you all out there again when Junior grades re-start over the first weekend of February.
