Athletic College Old Boys are this season’s Tasman Premier league champions after defeating the Marlborough Labour Hire Falcons by 6 wickets in Sunday’s final at Saxton Oval. The defending champions proved too strong as the Falcons could only muster 141 batting first (Harry Boyce 42) which proved not enough to test the strong ACOB batting unit, brothers Thomas and David Zorab each notching fifties. ACOB now go on to compete in the end of season Central Districts Club tournament in Napier.
It ends a fine season for the Falcons who have only been beaten by ACOB with these two clearly the dominant teams. In Saturday’s semi-final they were fine winners over WTTU despite a century from CD stags skipper Greg Hay. Andrew McCaa (82), Chris Bartholomeusz (39) and Matt Stretch (51no) saw the Falcons to their 223 target for the loss of 5 wickets.
Kaikoura continued their perfect start to the SBS Bank 2nd grade challenge cup with a 92 run win over Celtic Gold. Gavy Kalwan top scored with 74 and also took 3-32 in a man of the match performance. Wairau had a closer 3 wicket win over Renwick thanks to 48 and 3-8 from Hunter Ruffell. Andrew Marshall top scored for Renwick with 41 and also picked up 3 wickets. In the other game Celtic Green defaulted to Wairau Valley and suffer a 2 point deduction as a result.
In 3rd grade T20 games Lennox Crowe (78) led the way for Renwick in their win over Wairau for whom Sam Young made a fine 51no (Daemyn Ireland 3-22). Performance of the round goes to Celtic’s Luke Holdaway who struck 77no from 58 balls as they chased Wairau Valley’s 124 for the loss of only 2 wickets. Lachlan MacNeill top scored for Valley with 39no. 3rd grade moves to the 40 over format for the final 3 weeks before the winter break starting this Saturday.
In WK 4th grade there were more outstanding performances from round 3 fixtures including: Tom Eatherley (30), Harrison Fishburn (3-11), Charlie Robinson (29), Josh Harris (5-9), Charlie Booker (31), Luke Sparks (43), Jasper Sorenson-Brown (40), Eddie Russell (3-17), Anton Jossy (41), Dane Winstanley (33), Lukas Dowling (2-9), and Will Turner (49).
This Saturday Renwick CC hold their annual club day with both 4th grade teams playing at Renwick in the morning and 2nd and 3rd grade teams in the afternoon so if you are in the area call in to watch some great cricket action.
Our Churchill Private Hospital Women’s social cricket competition continues each Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm and we will be running skills sessions for the 30 minutes beforehand for those who can make it. Social refreshments will be provided following the games
