The Ultraquip Marlborough Senior Men’s team retained the Scanlon-Stretch trophy on Saturday with a 3 wicket win in Westport. Buller made 195 for 8 from their 45 overs led by 73 from Luke Henderson while Zariab Karkaria (2-42) and Griffin Carter (2-30) were the main wicket takers for Marlborough. In reply Joel Lavender (43), Sam Young (39) and Kirk Nicholas (31) all made useful contributions to ensure the win with 9 balls remaining. Next outing for the Men’s team is the 1st round of the Zone 3 Hawke Cup elimination series away to Nelson on 13-14 December.

In SBS Bank 2nd grade 40 over games there was a first defeat for Renwick by 63 runs at the hands of Valley Blue with Vineeth Babu (93), Shanku Kumar (58no) and Bhawish Rathore (3-30) staring for Blue while Mark Zillwood (43) and Mike Anstis (3-13) played well for Renwick. Valley Yellow were 154 run winners over Wairau with Matthew Stretch (58), Sam Boyce (40) and Daniel Baker (36) the main contributors and Lachie Cooney taking 3-30. Luke Petrie took 3-33 for Wairau.

In 2nd grade T20 action there were good performances by Ed Murchison (34), Sherry Singh (31), Simon Hickman (50), Scott Suanderson (50), Jason Templeman (40), William Marshall (52), Joe Cooke (72) and James Tunicliffe (2-6).

In the latest round of Senior Grade T20 there were wins for Wairau and Renwick with good contributions from James Bell (3-12), Piers Landon-Lane (33), Luke Holdaway (41) and Joel Lavender (83).

Wairau and Wairau Valley were the two winners in 3rd grade 40over games with standout performances from Pete Trevathan (37), Phil Hurren (3-20), Tamati de Wildt (3-27), Harry McKendry (48), Dylan Andrews (30), Quinn Deane (3-17), Josh Abrahams (3-6) and Vespa Duncan (2-17). After 5 rounds Wairau lead the way on 16 points with Celtic and Valley tied on 12 points.

Top performers in the latest round of WK 4th grade games included; William Dunne (31), Archie Laugesen (3-11), Denver Hart (3-16), Chase O’Hagan (4-15), Manawa Doonan (3-8), Harry Dunn (32), Jadyn Buckley (39), Archer Popoalii (3-14) and Julian Englefield (3-13).

This Sunday the Marlborough Year 9-10 boys host Nelson at Horton Park in a game that doubles up as the 1st round of the Central Districts tournament both team will attend in January. Sunday’s game starts at 10.30am on the Horton number 1 ground.
