The Ultraquip Marlborough Senior Men’s side had a tough time at the Central Districts Chapple Cup tournament last weekend losing all 3 games. While the bowlers toiled in good batting conditions there were some batting highlights including Andrew McCaa (73) and Griffin Carter (62) who stood out in a rain affected 1st round loss to eventual winners Wairarapa, while Sam Young top scored with 73 in the final day defeat by Whanganui. The final assignment for the team this season is the Newman Shield challenge against Nelson on 16th March at Horton Park.
Wairau and Valley Yellow were the winners in the latest games of SBS Bank 2nd grade 40 over competition. Matthew Stretch was the match winner for Valley with an unbeaten 67, while Greg Stretch chipped in with 3-25 as Renwick struggled to 151 (Keiran Gaudin 34). Gagan Singh made 57 in Valley Blue’s 105 all out (Luke Petrie 3-11, Fergus Dodson 3-32) which proved no match for Wairau, Josh Harris top scoring with 36.
In 3rd grade there was another century for Celtic’s Ollie Kennedy in their win over Wairau Valley. Joseph Gilhooly took 3-17 for Valley before John Diamanti’s 3-20 completed a commanding 130 run win. Wairau had an early finish bowling Renwick out for 51 (Billy Hurren 2-8, Harry McKendry 2-9) and completing the chase in less than 10 overs with Fionn Heagney striking 29no.
There were more top performances on Saturday morning in WK 4th grade games including; Oscar Duncan (39), Vespa Duncan (2-13), Isabelle Brown (20), Josh Abrahams (79), Freddie Heagney (58), Jock Murphy (30), Ryan Batty (3-14), Manawa Doonan (3-3), Joseph Gilhooly (49), Ned Bell (3-38), & Corban McLennan (33).
Our Primary School boys development players completed their season with two close and exciting inter-squad T20 games played at Horton Park on Sunday. Thanks once again to team coaches for all their hard work this summer and to the parents and supporters who created such a great supportive atmosphere.
This Friday and Saturday Horton Park and the Black Cottage Cricket ground host the Kindred Cup with 12 teams taking part from across the North and South Islands. Best wishes to the local United Country & Vineyard Cricket team who are hosting the event this year. Games are T20 and will be played on all 3 grounds at Horton Park from 9.30am both days with the final played on Saturday at the Black Cottage ground from around 4pm.
