The finals of the SBS Bank 2nd grade T20 grades were played in glorious sunshine last Thursday. In the Section A final Celtic Green defeated last year’s winners UCVC by 8 wickets. Cleighton Cornelius top scored with 28 while Greg Knowles took 3-20 in UCVCs below par score of 123. Ben Holdaway then smashed 77 from 50 balls as Celtic romped home.
It was similarly one sided in the Section B final after Wairau Warriors made 161 batting first thanks to Riki Baker (54 from 37 balls) and Tony Alexander (42 from 31). Thomas Kendrick made 38 as Awatere made it to 122 all out with Baker completing a fine game by taking 3-20.
In the SBS Bank 2nd grade 40 over competition Josh Harris (90no), Max Ruffell (72no) and Josh Alexander (58) led Wairau to a 116 run win over Valley Yellow – Danny Knox (31) Hayden McWilliam (4-33). Renwick were the other winners over Valley Blue, Keiran Gaudin top scoring for Renwick with 42 while Gunn Baath scored 27 and took 4-29 for Valley.
In 3rd grade games Lachie Cooney’s 38no and 3 for 5 helped Renwick to a 36 run win over Celtic, Pete Trevathan (47) and John Diamanti (35no) the main Celtic scorers while Kurtis Pincott took 3-31 for Renwick. Wairau were the other grade winners by 4 wickets over Wairau Valley thanks to 61 from Tom Heagney. Paddy Lankshear (47) and Nathan Glue (57) batted well for Valley.
The Hiwa-i-te-rangi trophy remains with Nelson after the final game in the series last Sunday ended in a 7 wicket defeat for our PaknSave Marlborough Women. Runs were again the problem for Marlborough with Liv Roseingrave (19) the only player to pass double figures in their 78 all out which proved no problem for Nelson with Kate Gaging unbeaten on 34. The Marlborough team travel to Whanganui this weekend for the Central Districts T20 tournament.
There were more top performances on Saturday morning as WK 4th grade continued. These included; Flynn Preece (3-9), Jacob Hefford (43), Charlotte Brooke-Taylor (2-17), Mitchell Nicholas (41), Ollie Gaudin (42), Oliver Walker (2-29), Josh Gleeson (32 & 3-34), Amiri Doonan (59), Oscar Duncan (4-23), William Dunne (4-20).
