The Marlborough Primary School Gold Girls team enjoyed a fine tournament in Christchurch last week winning 2 of their 5 games with all games closely fought affairs. Beau Clouston had a fine tournament finishing 4th in the tournament bowling charts with 7 wickets and a best of 4-23, and 4th in the batting charts with 83 runs and a top score of 32no. Katie Templeman was another Marlborough player to finish in the top 10 batters and bowlers while all players contributed in different games.
The Marlborough Year 9-10 boys team also performed well in the Central Districts tournament in Levin with an opening day win over Whanganui featuring a hat-trick to James Crowe in the first over of the innings. Dane Winstanley had an outstanding tournament with the ball to end as the tournament’s leading bowler with 12 wickets while Teagan Birkett took 4-29 in the close loss to Manawatu. Max Ruffell was 2nd in the tournament batting charts with 221 runs.
This Friday sees the PaknSave Marlborough Women’s Sen Rep team taking on Manawatu in a T20 game at Horton Park starting at 2pm as part of the CD Shrimpton Trial series.
In first round games of the SBS Bank Senior grade post Xmas 40 over competition Wairau Valley earned a hard fought win over Falcons thanks to 69 from Matthew Stretch while Yadwinder Hundal took 5-27 for Falcons. Renwick came out on top in a high scoring game against Wairau with Andrew McCaa (110), Baxter Croad (58), Rikki Bovey (121), and Luke Frankland (53) all enjoying the conditions more than the bowlers! In Div2 there were strong performances from Greg Winstanley (93), Gunn Bath (5-29), Ryan Clark (85) and Ollie Kennedy (96no).
In Senior Grade T20 action there were wins for Wairau and Renwick with strong performances from Sam Boyce (40), Joe Timms (48), Josh Poole (47 & 3-21) and Kieran Gaudin (3-28). Meanwhile 3rd grade T20 competition games continued with Alex Neal smashing a half century for Renwick in vain as Ollie Kennedy replied with an unbeaten 65 to see Celtic home. In 2nd grade T20 games Ed Miles took 3-5 for Wairau Warriors, Courtney Bowen scored 45 and took 4-38 for the Boundary Breakers, while Kirk Nicholas saw Renwick home to an 8 run win taking 2-3 from his only over – the final over of the match.
Senior, 2nd and 3rd grade T20 games continue this week. Come along to Horton Park on Friday to support the Marlborough Women’s side from 2pm. WK and Harcourts junior grades re-start over the first weekend of February so plenty of cricket action coming up!
