Caroline Aberhart
Caroline is Pharmacy Team Leader and Oncology Pharmacist Prescriber at Wairau Hospital Pharmacy. Her 15+ year pharmacy career has taken her all around New Zealand and overseas.
Blenheim born, Christchurch raised, she enjoyed playing junior representative cricket for Canterbury. After returning to Blenheim in 2017, Caroline coached the Marlborough Girls College first XV rugby team for three years and earned her Senior Women’s Marlborough cricket cap in 2022.
Caroline is passionate about creating opportunities for women and girls to play cricket in Marlborough and continuing the development of our Women’s cricket pathway.
Denis Aberhart
Denis was a Director of Canterbury Cricket for eleven years during an exciting period of growth for the Association. A highlight during this time was the move to what is now a world class home base at Hagley Oval a project he is proud to have been involved with. Denis is a strong advocate for grassroots cricket as a key element in the structure of cricket.
As a player Denis represented Marlborough, Central Districts and Canterbury before a highly successful coaching career with Canterbury during the 1990s and New Zealand in 2001. He also coached Marlborough from 2007 to 2010.
Jonathan Davis (Chair)
Jonathan works as a business development consultant, with a strong background in geospatial technology, product development and business strategy. Born in Blenheim, he played cricket through the junior and senior grades in the 1990’s before moving abroad for work. A highlight from his college years was playing for the MBC 1st XI that finished runners up in the 1994 NZ secondary schools 50-over competition. Since returning to Blenheim in 2016 with his partner Tiffany and daughter Scarlett, Jonathan has enjoyed getting back into cricketing circles, being involved with the Wairau club as a player, and more recently a junior coach.
Laura Sprules
Laura recently moved to Blenheim with her young family. Originally from the UK she spent 7 years in Sydney prior to moving to New Zealand in 2021.
Laura’s first passion was playing and watching sport, playing sport late into the evenings through her school years, this continued as she studied for a BSc (Hons) Science in Health, Exercise and Sport. Laura enjoys an endurance challenge and has completed several Olympic distance Triathlons and in 2015 cycled over 1,000km from San Francisco to San Diego.
Professionally, Laura is a Diversity and Inclusion leader, developing and implementing strategies to address structural and systemic barriers in order to improve equitable outcomes for all.
Laura is excited to bring together her passion for sport and her professional experience to provide opportunities for the whole community to play and participate in Cricket
Greg Stretch
Greg’s working career has involved over 30 years in the Banking Industry. Prior to his most recent role managing the SBS Bank in Blenheim, he held several positions with Westpac including Business Banking Manager.
He is an active senior club player for Wairau Valley and currently President (and Life Member) of the club. Greg represented Marlborough from 1986 to 2014 playing a record 209 games for the province. Following retirement from representative playing he carried out the role of team Manager for several years and remains a member of the selection panel.
Greg was part of the management committee of Marlborough Cricket from 1989, holding the position of Chairman for 6 years until 2014. He also served as a director of Central Districts Cricket Board from 2014–2017. In 2017 he was made a life member of Marlborough Cricket.
Our Staff
Ed Gilhooly – General Manager
Ed has a longstanding connection with Marlborough Cricket beginning back in 1998 when he spent 3 summers as our Coaching and Development Manager and represented Marlborough on 15 occasions during this time. He returned to Marlborough full time in 2007 and continues to play for the Renwick club as well as carrying out the role of MCA General Manager. Ed is married to Helen and they have two children, Hannah & Joseph, who are both actively involved in Cricket and other local sports. Ed likes to get around our junior grades and programmes and keep in touch with players and parents so please hunt him out and have a chat whenever you get the chance!
